Victoria - Selective Entry High School Preparation

Prepare for the Superior Rank.

Melbourne High · Mac.Robertson · Nossal · Suzanne Cory Start in Year 6. Build over 2 years. Walk in prepared - not panicked.

The Victorian SEHS exam is not a memory test - it is a pressure test of higher-order thinking. To gain a place at Melbourne High or Mac.Robertson, students generally need to score in the 96th–99th percentile. Preparation builds that gap. Starting early is the only way to build it.

The variable nobody talks about: With Victoria's 4% school cap, your child doesn't just compete against all applicants - they must also outperform the brightest students in their own classroom. You cannot control who else applies. You can control how prepared your child is.

Is Your Child Silently Falling Behind?

The SEHS gap doesn't appear at the exam. It builds every week before it.

🏫
The Classroom Competition With Victoria's 4% school cap, your child doesn't only compete against all of Victoria - they must first outperform the strongest students in their own school. If four high-achieving students from the same school apply, only the top scorer may receive an offer. Preparation is the one variable your family controls.
!
The Percentile Reality To gain entry to Melbourne High or Mac.Robertson, students typically need to score in the 96th–99th percentile. For Nossal and Suzanne Cory, the 88th–95th percentile is typically required. "Good at school" is not the same as exam-ready.
!
The Vocabulary Ceiling Standard school reading does not build the advanced vocabulary required in Section 2. Without a strong word bank, analogy and verbal reasoning questions become guesswork - and guesswork does not reach the 96th percentile.
!
The Last-Minute Trap Most families begin preparing 3 months before the exam. The students who reach the top percentiles built their preparation over 1–2 years. The gap between your child and those students is not talent - it is time and consistency.
!
The No-Calculator Reality Section 1 does not allow calculators. If your child relies on digital tools for mental arithmetic today, they will find both the Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning components significantly harder under exam conditions.
