SK QR Builder is a practice tool focused on the Quantitative Reasoning questions that appear in Section 1 of the Victorian Selective Entry High School (SEHS) exam. Quantitative Reasoning tests how students apply logic and numerical thinking to unfamiliar problems, and it is often the most confusing section for parents and students new to selective entry testing.
Quantitative Reasoning is not the same as school maths. It rewards pattern recognition, logical deduction, and strategic thinking under time pressure. SK QR Builder helps students by:
Pick a topic, work through a set of 10-20 questions, and then review every explanation, even for the ones you got right. Understanding the fastest method is more important than the final answer. Practise 3-4 sessions a week in the lead-up to the exam.
Do not try to teach QR the way you were taught maths. These questions are designed to trip up students who rely on memorised formulas. Encourage your child to talk through their reasoning out loud - hearing the logic is how it sticks.
What is quantitative reasoning?
It is a test of logical and numerical thinking using patterns, puzzles, and data, rather than curriculum maths.
How much of the SEHS exam is QR?
QR sits inside the 60-minute Section 1 alongside Maths, with a significant share of questions.
Is QR harder than maths?
Most students find QR less familiar at first. With practice it becomes manageable.
How often should my child practise?
Three to four short sessions per week is usually more effective than one long session.
